Where am I?  What am I for?

Two little questions, not new nor ever asked before.  I'm sure you'll know...maybe I'm near you...or where you've been before...maybe I'm doing what you used to do...being what you used to be.

Clue 1.   The Leaf Man

Monday morning, in the pool trying out a new swimming stroke, on my back, head just resting on surface, body horrizontal but deep as I can...may call her the backsub.  From here, I see the leaf man, small and focused.  He's higher than me, on the raised patio, framed by the pool's domed glass and the blue sky. The water has emptied my head,  happy as be.  He picks the leaves up with his 'stick made specially' and never raises his head.

Leaving the glassed water I walk past the leaf man and as usual, I smile at the top of his head. But today, he must've heard my approach.  He shows me his face and looks at mine, smiling only with his eyes.  I wish the man a good day, and in a language which was not mine originally, he wishes me the same.
